It all boils down to the levee system.

St. Charles Avenue: streetcar gone, lampposts torn out by the roots.

People will clear garbage, live in tents

Lower Ninth: houses marked in the search for bodies, an O, an X.

stalling till the next hurricane season

Lakeview: Oriole Street, Lark Street: “We Tear Down Houses.”

leaving nothing but a few shells for tourists to visit like a museum.

Mid-City: street after street blue-roofed.

Total allocations for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the war on terror have topped $300 billion.

Aerial view: evacuation does not make vacant.
